Chuck Schumer Just Jumped Off The Deep End – He Dares To Claim Election Laws Like Voter ID Are Threats To “Modern Democracy”

After the hotly contested and controversial presidential election, many Republicans started pushing for more voting laws. Atop the list was voter ID, and it remains there for many Americans.

But Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other Democrats don’t support the idea. In fact, they see it as a way to suppress voters.

Schumer went even further this week, though — and what he said will definitely rile right-wing politicians and voters.

Democrats are trying to push through their “For the People Act,” which the GOP says will erase power from the states and totally federalize elections.

They basically say that it would allow just about anyone in the country to vote (regardless of their citizenship status), and opens the door for election errors and even intentional misconduct.

However, Schumer accuses Republicans of being “afraid” of democracy.

Here’s what he had to say during a Senate Rules and Administration Committee hearing concerning “For the People” (from Breitbart):

Some of these voter suppression laws in Georgia and other Republican states smack of Jim Crow rearing its ugly head once again.

The laws, their various cousins in Republican state legislatures across the country, are one of the greatest threats we have to modern democracy in America.

Schumer then cited a report in the Washington Post, which said voting laws “could strain every available method of voting for tens of millions Americans.”

Unsurprisingly, he’s also playing the race card in this case.

He added that states would discriminate against African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and younger Americans in college. But recent polling doesn’t seem to support this idea.

In fact, a recent HEP Action survey showed that the majority of registered voters – including a majority of black and Latino voters – are in favor of voter ID laws.

This survey didn’t include non-registered voters, though, and that seems to be precisely who Schumer and the Democrats are targeting.

They also want to give everyone, regardless of citizenship status, the chance to vote in elections. And Republicans simply say this is utterly ridiculous, and defies common sense.

Many point toward common sense in regards to voter ID laws: what possible problem could there be with simply showing an ID to cast a vote in this country?

Having virtually no voter laws of any kind makes a mockery of the entire process, as many Republicans have claimed. It also opens the door to even more government control.

One also has to wonder what Schumer means by “modern democracy” — has the definition of the word changed in the eyes of Democrats?
